Screening of Barbershop

An Outdoor Screening of Barbershop

Tacos, Refreshments & a Movie

American cinema has produced some indelible fictional places: Rick’s Café in Casablanca, the bar in Star Wars, and that lush planet in Avatar.Barbershop, the 2002 comedy, introduced another such place: the South Side of Chicago barbershop where Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer and so many others hold court over one very long day. Yes, there’s a plot—about a loan shark who buys the shop with secret plans to turn it into a gentleman’s club—but the point of the piece is the wonderful, endless conversation (don’t miss Cedric’s famous riff about Rosa Parks, Rodney King and O.J. Simpson). It’s a perfect night to grab a taco and a beer and watch this quirky summertime flick under the downtown L.A. lights.
