LAFS Sunset Soundstage

It’s on the soundstage where a film production really comes to life. The Los Angeles Film School’s Sunset Soundstage is continually in production. Nearly every day, you'll find students working, lights placed and adjusted, and students hustling to make everything just perfect on this elaborate permanent set. It’s all in preparation for the moment the director calls “ACTION"

This 3,000 square foot soundstage has a permanent full interior and partial exterior of a multi-architectural styled California bungalow that utilizes age-old industry techniques to simulate the surrounding exterior environment such as a green screen, a 16’x40’ hand painted background of the Malibu coastline and a giant back-lit high-resolution photograph imprinted on a translucent film, called a “trans-light”. A suspended catwalk hangs from the ceiling lighting grid high above the set to give maximum lighting flexibility. Lighting is controlled with a Strand GSX computerized dimming console that features unlimited pre-programmed presets and cues. The stage is outfitted with Mole Richardson Lighting fixtures, which include the impressive Mole Space Lights for daylight reproduction and giant Mole Sky Pans to illuminate the trans-light. There’s even an 18 foot oak tree in the backyard.
