What is Career Development?

Career Development is a lifelong process -- and it begins right when school starts! The keys to unlocking and managing a successful career in the entertainment industry are research, networking, preparation, professionalism, and the ability to stay current with industry practices and trends. The Career Development Department works in conjunction with students’ education curricula to prepare them with interpersonal and professional skills, support their vocational goals, and help to bridge the gap between academia and the workplace.

Staffed by industry professionals who have contributed to successful projects and worked at top entertainment industry companies, the Career Development Department helps students and graduates to navigate through their chosen field and prepare for contact with potential employers – as well as the realities of the “biz” – ensuring that they have the necessary skills to secure employment, build a career, and sustain it successfully. We are here to help you define your future!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know who my Advisor is?
Advisors are assigned prior to your One-On-One Advisor appointment (6-10 weeks before graduation). You will be emailed your Advisor assignment along with your appointment day and time.

Can I hold an internship while still in school?
Students are encouraged to focus on their course of study while in school in order to give it the attention it requires. While you may choose to hold an internship while still in school, school credit is only given as part of our post-graduate internship program.

My email address/phone number etc. changed. Who do I tell in Career Development so I can be sure I receive all announcements and email notifications?
Please contact Coordinator April Ross (aross@lafilm.com) if your contact information changes.

Will Career Development place me in a job after graduation?
No. The Career Development Department is not a “placement office.” We do offer job search assistance and can provide job leads, but we do not guarantee you a job.
