Art Department Teachers
The Los Angeles Film School is looking for part time, hourly teachers for labs in the Production Design and the Art Direction Courses. This is an opportunity to influence the next generation of filmmakers and art department personnel. We have an accelerated Associates Degree—12 or 18 months—that teaches everyone in a hands-on atmosphere the basics of storytelling. Every student takes the whole program, so we are really teaching filmmakers the importance of (and how to work with) the Art Department!
We (the Production Design and Art Direction teachers) have two months with the students with 20 lectures and 20 labs. Classes are 3 hours each. We are looking for the following skill sets in any combination: Scenic Paint, Drawing, Sketchup, Hand Drafting, Model Building, and Photoshop specifically. Experience in Set Decorating and Dressing, Props, Construction, SPFX etc. would be great. Expertise in more than one of these skills will be advantageous. Our two months culminate with a production month in which the sets that are designed are built, painted, set dressed, shot and edited!
Applicants must have a minimum 4 years experience in the specific skills mentioned above, and a minimum of an Associates Degree. Teaching experience is not necessary. Hours are flexible. Pay is $20 an hour but we have fun. Please email me with your interest, questions and your resume at: bdunphy@lafilm.com I look forward to hearing from you. Teaching can be very rewarding.
