Alumni Spotlights at the 92nd Annual Oscars

The 92nd Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday, February 9, here in Hollywood. We are proud to recognize the alumni who contributed to Oscar-winning films this year. Los Angeles Film School alumni worked on three Oscar-winning films that won four awards, including Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design, Best Supporting Actor and Best Animated Film.

Parasite’s director Bong Joon Ho made Oscar history with a surprise victory sweep winning Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature. Only 11 people have won three awards in a single Oscars ceremony. Of those 11 people, there are only three filmmakers that won original screenplay, director and picture—Bong Joon Ho, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Birdman), and Billy Wilder (The Apartment). Bong Joon Ho gave a heartfelt nod to his fellow Best Director nominees in his acceptance speech.

“When I was young and studying cinema, there was a saying that I carved deep into my heart, which is that ‘The most personal is the most creative.'”

“That quote is from our great Martin Scorsese. When I was in school, I studied Martin Scorsese’s films. Just to be nominated was a huge honor. I never thought I would win, said Ho.”

Alumni Relations Director Joe Byron Tracks Alumni Success

“This is such a historic Oscars season, and I am truly proud that our alumni had a hand in several Oscar-winning films again this year. Their dedication and creative contributions to the craft help shape this wonderful entertainment industry year after year,” said Byron.

Congratulations to all the alumni who worked on 2019 Oscar-nominated and winning films!
