Carol Oscar-Nominated Writer Phyllis Nagy Inspires

Phyllis Nagy, the Oscar-Nominated Screenwriter of Carol, shares advice on how to avoid the pitfalls of wanting to please everyone.

Armed with a background as a novelist, author-turned-screenwriter Phyllis Nagy worked for several years to develop Carol into the Oscar-Nominated movie it became. The film, which charts the friendship and love between two women in 1950’s Manhattan, is a delicate piece that respects the source material. Carol, directed by Todd Haynes, has earned a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has brought in $24 Million at the box office as of writing.

Born in New York City, Phyllis Nagy moved to London to work as a playwright at the Royal Court Theatre. Nagy’s numerous published plays have been performed around the world, including Weldon Rising and Trip’s Cinch. In addition, over the years Nagy has earned a total of 12 Emmy Award Nominations, three Golden Globe Award nominations, and three Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.It took several years for her to adapt Patricia Highsmith’s novel, The Price of Salt for the screen.

Currently, Phyllis Nagy is working on an adaptation of Kate Atkinson’s Case Histories for Film4 Productions.
