Meet Henrique Andrade, Our 2020 Spotlight Academy Member

Henrique Andrade is the man behind some of the most recognizable artists in the recording industry. As an audio engineer, Henrique worked his way up the music ranks to GRAMMY-award winner for his recording work on Colombian artist Juanes’ debut album, Mis Planes Son Amarte (My Plans Are to Love You). He’s worked with everyone from Zayn Malik to Justin Bieber.

Born and raised in Manaus, Brazil, Henrique was exposed to American pop culture through snippets of TV shows and radio music. He remembers watching The Wonder Years and music videos on MTV during the height of the ’90s grunge scene. Some of Henrique’s family were involved in live events and radio, which exposed him to music growing up. Henrique attended concerts and played instruments to get a better understanding of music as an art form.

Henrique moved to the United States after high school to pursue the recording industry in Hollywood. When Henrique enrolled in The Los Angeles Recording School, a division of The L.A. Film School, he had this feeling of “What am I doing? I can barely speak English,” says Henrique. That didn’t stop him from excelling in school and landing a job as a recording engineer at the legendary Record Plant Studios in Hollywood.

Hard work has paid off for Henrique. He still works at Record Plant, and has since added Grammy-winner to his audio engineer title.
