Welcome back, students! After the long weekend, let’s ease into September with what’s new and good this month. There’s a ton happening in September: New network TV shows are popping up. The Emmy Awards are less than two weeks away. And Beyoncé, America’s Queen of Pop, will perform at the Rose Bowl. Check out the other exciting events, releases and contests to look forward to this month.

Are you an aspiring filmmaker? Here are two film contests for students who want show off their creative side outside of the classroom. It’s also a great way to produce new projects or dust off something you’ve been sitting on for a while.

Sundance Ignite Short Film Challenge

Sundance Ignite Short Film Challenge

Sundance Ignite and Adobe Project 1324 are coming together to find the next crop of Sundance Ignite Fellows. Are you an 18 to 24-year-old filmmaker? They want to hear what stories ignite you through a one-to-eight minute short film. All films must be entered by September 17. Official rules here.

Vice and IGTV Film Contest

VICE x IGTV

VICE, the edgy news outlet, wants emerging filmmakers to share their voice using the new long-form media channel, IGTV. They’re looking for short films that center on “your world”. What does that mean? Well, they’re open to interpretation and creative expression. Submit your short film to by September 15, and follow the official rules on Vice.com.
