Malcon Pierce helped bring to life the brilliant characters in Moana

Moana has been a tremendous hit for both Walt Disney Animation Studios and audiences worldwide. Animation Supervisor Malcon Pierce stopped by to share a presentation with students detailing the work that went on to create the vibrant world of Moana. Taking cues from the natural beauty and music of Hawaii, and injecting the brilliance and ingenuity of Disney’s artists, Pierce helped translate the vision of Moana to the screen. In the interview, Malcon details the process of researching the Hawaiian culture, popular myths, and how the little details add up to the tropical paradise we see on screen. Moana was directed by
