On Wednesday, August 6th, The Los Angeles Film School and Jeff Goldsmith presented a screening of Into The Storm, the found-footage action film directed by Steven Quale (Final Destination V, Avatar)

The film centers around a group of storm chasers as they stare down the barrel of the biggest tornado in recorded history.

After the film, Jeff Goldsmith and Steven Quale talked about the process of making the film.

“We used Alexa and RED cameras, along with GoPro and lipstick cams.”

While he blocked every shot, Steven discussed the importance of spontaneity in good filmmaking.

You have to be organic and think about things when making a film.

Prior to Into The Storm, Steven Quale worked with James Cameron on many of his features, including Titanic.

Titanic taught me a lot about dealing with large-scale sets.

In terms of his origins, Steven recalled fondly his film school youth.

Film school was a wonderful experience (for me)

Into The Storm is in theaters August 8th. You’ll be able to find the episode of the podcast soon here.
