Screening and Q&A of They Came Together

On Wednesday June 18, The Los Angeles Film School hosted a screening of They Came Together, a comedy centered around a couple as they haphazardly get to know one another.

Following the screening, the film’s Co-Writers, David Wain and Michael Showalter spoke with Jeff Goldsmith about their creative process, and also performed a brief magic show for the audience.

Michael Showalter, the Co-Writer of the film, expressed his approach to learning screenwriting.

“I was always very interested in the architecture and math of writing.”

The film is set in Manhattan, and its protagonists, played by Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler, bump into one another while on their way to a holiday party. The rest is hilarious history.

Speaking about the light, seemingly spontaneous nature of the film, David Wain regarded the creative process for his comedies.

“Every apparent ad lib is tightly scripted.”

Special thanks to everyone for attending the screening and Q&A.
