In addition to many other regulatory requirements, The Los Angeles Film School must comply with a federal regulation described as the “90/10 rule.” Pursuant to this regulatory requirement, no more than 90% of the school’s revenue can come from federal sources (such as student financial aid) as calculated pursuant to a formula developed by the U.S. Department of Education.
For the fiscal year that ended on December 31, 2025, the school received more than 90% of revenue from federal sources. Importantly, exceeding this threshold for a single year has no impact on student eligibility for financial aid. However, if LAFS exceeds 90% for two consecutive years (in this case for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2026), it will lose access to federal student financial aid programs for the following two fiscal years. This means otherwise eligible students would not be able to use federal grants or loans at The Los Angeles Film School for two years, starting in January 2027. LAFS does not intend to exceed this threshold for 2026, but is nevertheless required to provide this notice to current and prospective students.
Please know:
- Your 2026 financial aid is not at risk because of this notice.
- This is only a notice required by regulation for a possible future impact beginning in 2027.
