Filmmaker Magazine Names The Los Angeles Film School to 2026 Film School Guide

Marking a fourth consecutive year on the magazine’s list of the nation’s leading film-centered education programs.
The Los Angeles Film School is featured in FILMMAKER Magazine’s 2026 Film School Guide, marking its fourth straight year among the nation’s top film education programs. The recognition runs in the magazine’s Summer 2026 issue (No. 135), on newsstands now and at filmmakermagazine.com.
The guide itself got an overhaul this year. Rather than a lineup of individual school write-ups, Filmmaker built its education section around an essay by filmmaker and Slamdance cofounder Dan Mirvish, “To Find Your Dream Film School, Question Everything,” walking prospective students through the real tradeoffs: undergraduate versus graduate, production versus film studies, big university versus specialized program. The L.A. Film School shows up in the data behind it, listed among the schools anchoring the Los Angeles production hub and credited for alumni including music video director Hannah Lux Davis (Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Charli XCX), director Oz Rodriguez, and editor Martin Pensa.
That’s the track record behind the curriculum. The L.A. Film School’s on-campus and online programs put cameras, consoles, and edit bays in students’ hands early, with Associate and Bachelor’s degrees across more than 18 undergraduate paths, including Film, Animation, Music Production, and Writing for Film & TV.
The results show up every awards season. This year, L.A. Film School and Recording School alumni were credited on 48 Academy Award nominations and 12 wins, 21 Grammy nominations and 8 wins (Travis Harrington picked up an individual nod for his work on Rod Wave’s “Sinners”), 29 Golden Globe nominations and 13 wins, and 136 Emmy nominations with 23 wins, including Jesse Sternbaum’s individual win for The Studio.
Since opening in Hollywood in 1999, The L.A. Film School has built its catalog around the industry’s working parts: Animation, Audio Production, Digital Filmmaking, Entertainment Business, Film Production, Graphic Design, Media Communications, Music Production, and Writing for Film & TV.
