TheWrap has published its Top 50 Film Schools 2026 ranking, and for the seventh consecutive year, The Los Angeles Film School is on it. TheWrap compiles each fall from survey data on film programs across the country.

Where The Los Angeles Film School Lands on the 2026 List

TheWrap’s profile focuses on the practical side of how the school teaches: working faculty, hands-on training, and career-development support that starts on the first day.

The magazine calls it an education that “reflects the realities and demands of today’s creative workforce.”

The profile also highlights the campus itself: the school is anchored in the former RCA building on Sunset Boulevard, and TheWrap counts 250,000 square feet of classrooms, labs, and production stages stocked with professional-grade gear and software. The magazine also noted that LAFS has the largest enrollment of any school on this year’s list, with more than half of students enrolled in online degree programs.

How TheWrap Builds the Top 50 Film Schools 2026 Ranking

This is TheWrap’s 11th annual film school ranking and its third produced with research firm Screen Engine/ASI. In the summer of 2026, Screen Engine/ASI surveyed roughly 60 colleges and universities and scored their responses with a point system.

The criteria cover the parts of a film education you can actually measure: faculty qualifications, the breadth of courses offered, equipment available to students, how many films students make, hands-on experience through internships and mentoring, and opportunities to showcase student work. Additional points go to career centers, proximity to the Los Angeles and New York entertainment hubs, credentialed guest speakers, notable alumni, and recent facility and equipment upgrades.

A Hollywood Campus With an Online Reach

On campus in Hollywood, students study film, animation and visual effects, game art, music production, audio production, and entertainment business. Online, the school offers degree programs in digital filmmaking, writing for film and TV, graphic design, media communications, animation, music production, audio production, and entertainment and music business.

TheWrap notes that both tracks run on learning the craft from people who practice it and using the tools the industry uses.

Seven Years on the List, and a Busy 2026

Rankings measure the school. The credits measure what alumni do with it, and 2026 has been a strong year on that front.
