Jordan Wilby

Recording Arts, Class of 2004

Jordan Wilby

Jordan’s appreciation of music led him to venture out of his hometown in Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. In 2002, he enrolled in the Recording Arts program at The Los Angeles Recording School, a division of The L.A. Film School, and completed his studies in 2004. A stickler for experiential learning, Wilby secured an internship shortly thereafter with Hammerhead Sound. Jordan’s growing love for audio postproduction led him to work on projects that are now well-known and adored by audiences worldwide. Chances are, if you are a film or television lover, you have heard sounds designed and edited by Jordan Wilby.

“You have an idea in your head and how you want the scene to be. The challenge is really how do I put what’s in my head into the session and deliver it to the mixer.”

Jordan’s work appears in popular shows like Stranger Things, The Twilight Zone, The Vampire Diaries, Watchmen (2019) — where he served as sound effects editor for all nine episodes — Mare of Easttown (2021) — where he is credited as sound effects editor for all seven episodes — and Bosch (2019–2021) — where he worked as sound effects editor on eight episodes. His dedication to post‑production sound landed him multiple Primetime Emmy nominations and two Primetime Emmy wins: Outstanding Sound Editing for Stranger Things Seasons 1 and 2. He also earned an Emmy for Watchmen in 2020 for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited Series, shared with the Watchmen sound team. Before Stranger Things, Jordan worked on a multitude of Marvel productions including The Punisher, Jessica Jones and Daredevil.
