Phillip Bladh

Phillip Bladh is an Oscar-winning production sound mixer who is most known for his work on the film Sound of Metal starring Riz Ahmed as Ruben Stone. He graduated from The L.A. Recording School in 2008 and has been active in the film industry for more than a decade. It took Phillip 12 years of working as a production sound mixer in the entertainment industry before winning his first Oscar in 2021. Phillip is our first-ever known alumnus to personally win an Oscar.

“You should never be afraid of hard work as long as you get good results.”

As a production sound mixer, Phillip’s job on set is to get creative with the technical aspects of sound. Sound mixing is a huge part of what makes great sound in film possible. Capturing audio on set can be challenging due to unforeseen environmental components that can interfere with recordings. Phillip is a master at making the impossible possible. On Sound of Metal,  Phillip used his expertise to create a full sensory experience and let the audience hear both sides of Ruben’s hearing loss. Phillip has contributed his talents to many other films including C’mon C’mon starring Joaquin Phoenix and Destroyer starring Nicole Kidman. In 2022, Phillip signed on to the Warner Bros. live-action/animated hybrid film, Coyote Vs. Acme.
