Frozen Q&A with Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee

On Monday night, a special screening of Frozen took place, followed by a Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith and Co-Writers / Co-Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. The computer-animated Disney film is Lee’s second in the director’s chair after helming Wreck-It-Ralph, while Chris Buck has directed several movies, including Surf’s Up and 1999’s Tarzan.

Following the screening, Jeff Goldsmith hosted a Q&A with the duo, and they provided their thoughts about the process of creating an animated feature, and the importance of doing what you love.

“There are so many different kinds of love. I wanted to celebrate them with this movie,” said Chris Buck, on what the initial goal was when creating Frozen.

“We are not trying to create real worlds. We are trying to create believable worlds.” Jennifer Lee, responding to a question about how realistic the team wanted to make the computer animation for the film.

“We had to develop new technology to render the snow in Frozen,” said Chris Buck, elaborating on the challenges inherent in creating a virtual world from scratch.

When asked how many drafts the script for Frozen went through prior to production, Jennifer Lee replied, “About 40.”
