Paquita Hughes

Paquita “PQ” Hughes is a military veteran, independent producer and location manager in Los Angeles. As a Yellow Ribbon GI Bill recipient, Hughes transitioned from the military to student life and enrolled in the associate film program. Hughes credits her creative streak and early interests in photography, theatre and film as the driving force to pursue a career in the film and entertainment industry. She first got her start in film through AD work and eventually got recruited for locations and scouting. The key assistant location manager job opportunity led Hughes to work on sets for major projects including, Marvel Runaways, HBO’s Perry Mason, and Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere.

You’re going to fall, you’re going to have moments where you’ll stumble. Everything won’t be peaches and cream along the way, but you have to look for the silver lining in every situation.

Hughes’ journey into the film industry is a lesson in perseverance. The road to earning a college degree isn’t easy for anyone, but Hughes’s journey is an inspiring tale of believing in yourself against all odds. As a child of the foster care system and college dropout, her path into the entertainment industry is a true alumni success story.

We are proud to recognize the talented alumni who worked on Emmy-nominated productions for the 73rd Annual Primetime Emmys. More than 25 alumni from different degree programs contributed their talents to productions including The Mandalorian, WandaVision and Pen15. Alum Josh Gitersonke (Film 2007) was personally nominated for Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program for his work as Director of Photography on The Amazing Race. This is Josh Gitersonke's eighth Emmy nomination. He previously won an Emmy for his camera work on the Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special.
