Don’t miss out! Here are a few reasons why:

Career Springboard: AFF provides filmmakers an invaluable platform among industry professionals and film-lovers. We’ve helped launch the careers of countless filmmakers including Jason Reitman, Cary Fukunaga, Ray McKinnon, and Stephen Falk.

Exciting Jurors: Each category is presided over by our A-list jurors, who in the past have included America Ferrera, Tom Skerritt, Ashley Miller, Scott Neustadter, Leigh Whannell, and representatives from The Weinstein Company, Sundance Institute, Oscilloscope Laboratories, P.O.V., and Gravitas Ventures.

Oscar Qualifying: The winning films in the Narrative Short, Documentary Short and Animated Short categories are Academy Award®-eligible. In the past few years, we’ve sent several shorts to the Oscars, including Tim Reckart’s Head Over Heels, Bryan Buckley’s Asad, and William Joyce’s The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, which actually went on to win the Academy Award.

Networking: The largest of its kind in the world, AFF’s Screenwriters Conference, which takes place during the Festival, attracts groundbreaking producers, agents, managers, and development execs, as well as countless working screenwriters and filmmakers. Once your film is accepted, you get two all-access passes to this creative hub. The conference provides an environment where filmmakers can attend panels with screenwriters and developers to get a jump start on their next film. We love to introduce new filmmakers to our homegrown community and help them find that spark to continue making work.

Prizes: Jury Award Winners for every category receive a cash prize ($2,500 for Narrative Feature and Documentary Feature, $1000 for Narrative Short, Dark Matters Feature and Comedy Vanguard Feature, and $500 for Narrative Student Short, Documentary Short, and Animated Short). Winners also receive reimbursement (up to $500) of one round-trip airfare to Austin to attend the 2014 AFF, reimbursement (up to $500) for stay at an AFF hotel during the 2014 Festival, and the AFF Bronze Typewriter Award.

Also, for the first time ever, AFF is introducing its brand new Scripted Digital Series Competition. This competition will accept both filmed and written submissions in an effort to find talented voices who can adapt their vision to emerging digital platforms. Out of the group of film and script submissions from the competition, AFF will select one winner who displays the strongest voice and greatest potential for establishing a digital series. The submission fee for this category is only $35. Learn more at www.austinfilmfestival.com/digital-series

Bottom line: Austin Film Festival combs through its submissions for the best stories. We pride ourselves on finding fresh, relevant, and gifted voices from around the world. AFF is a place where new visions and untapped talent can flourish and join our dynamic and welcoming community. It doesn‘t matter where you come from or what you believe; if you have a story to tell, we want to see it.
