Faculty Spotlight: Ana Reina

We sat down with Entertainment Business instructor Ana Reina and asked her a few questions about her career.

What sparked your interest in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry?

“I was a Marketing Major in college.  When I graduated I came across this amazing singer.   As most artists, he had no idea about marketing, branding and general business sense.  I began to show him the importance of branding and how to promote himself.  After implementing my advice, his career took off and then he asked me to manage him.  The rest is history.”

What are some of your favorite experiences so far in your entertainment career?

“My favorite experiences were touring.  I have toured this country multiple times.  Each trip was an adventure filled with amazing memories.  We had so much fun and laughed so much!  Not only did I learn a lot on the road, but bonded with life long friends.

What are some projects that you have worked on, and what are you working on next?

“I focus on unsigned independent artists.  Some have gotten signed and some do not want to be on a label.  Most of them you probably have never heard of but are extremely successful in following their dream. Currently I consult/manage Beebs and Her Money Makers, The Crazy Carls, and Chasing Jonah.”

What do you think is the most challenging part of working in the industry, and how did you learn to overcome it?

“It was extremely difficult being a woman in this field. It was difficult to be taken seriously.  I learned to overcome it by working hard and gaining respect through creating noticeable opportunities for my artists.  You couldn’t ignore I was good at my job and I made things happen with or without you.”

What advice would you give to aspiring entertainment professionals?

“Follow your gut!  If you really believe in it then you can make it happen.  People will tell you to give up and that it is long shot. Sacrifice and work hard to make it shorter.”
