Hello Sunshine

What a fantastic morning we had at The Los Angeles Film School! We were incredibly lucky to host two amazing leaders from Hello Sunshine, Reese Witherspoon’s mission driven media company: Tiffany Phelps, SVP of Post Production & Technology, and Sam Springli, Director of Technology. They dropped by to share their career journeys with our students and alum and offer some seriously valuable advice.

Their talk centered on the fascinating link between technology and the creative process in film. They explained how post-production workflows help transform an idea into a story you see on screen, and what it takes to succeed in this ever-evolving field.

How do they see AI shaping the industry?

Their advice on the matter was incredibly practical: “Learn the tools, understand the mechanisms behind it, and fact-check.” They emphasized that in an industry that’s constantly changing, the most important trait you can have is a genuine curiosity and a willingness to learn.

What Do Industry Leaders Look for in New Talent?

When asked what they look for in entry-level positions, their answers were refreshingly direct and insightful.

Tiffany Phelps shared that she values a specific kind of drive. She looks for people who are “hungry, honest and wants to work.” She also said, “I look for something unique… I don’t need something perfect.” This is such a great reminder that your individuality is a huge asset.

Sam Springli kept it concise but powerful, highlighting the critical importance of “attention to detail.”

So, whether you’re a film student or just starting out, remember their words: mix your technical skills with a passion for learning and don’t be afraid to be yourself. It just might be the key to your successful career!
