The Los Angeles Film School is pleased to announce that nine students from its Graphic Design Degree Program won American Advertising Awards at the 2021 Los Angeles competition. This is the second year in a row that Graphic Design students from The L.A. Film School have competed and won ADDY Awards here in Los Angeles. L.A. Film School’s Graphic Design online program was recently named as one of the best programs for graphic design by Intelligent.com.

For this session of Barrier Breakers, we interviewed alumna Paquita “PQ” Hughes is a military veteran, independent producer, and location manager in Los Angeles. We got to pick PQ’s brain about her childhood in Mississippi, being in the military, the ins and out of working film production, the movies that have inspired her, and so much more.

Even our online students experience the Hollywood connection through our faculty, virtual industry events and networking opportunities. Jaycen Joshua (LARS 2003) won Best Engineered Album for Beck’s Hyperspace. Jaycen also contributed to GRAMMY-winner Megan Thee Stallion who won for Best New Rap Artist, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song (Savage).

Jessica has photographed some of the most recognizable faces in the world in her 10-plus years as a portrait photographer. Her work has appeared in MTV.com, The Huffington Post, Fortune and The Wall Street Journal. Jessica’s film and entertainment background led her to work in branding and promotion for top Hollywood talents.
Henrique sacrificed his free time to pursue his audio engineering career at Record Plant, which led him to work with iconic musicians like Justin Bieber, Zayn Malik and Carly Rae Jepsen. Henrique’s dedication to his creative pursuits has paid off with the success of each album he mixes or engineers.
Over the years, Oz has worked on more than 50 episodes of SNL and directed the Emmy®-winning show Creating Saturday Night Live, which documents the making of America’s most iconic sketch comedy TV series. In 2019, Oz personally won a Primetime Emmy for Creating SNL.
This year, we are proud to announce that five alumni worked on seven Grammy-nominated projects in 11 out of the 83 categories. Two of our alumni were personally nominated for Producer of the Year (Steven “Flying Lotus” Ellison) and Best Engineered Album (Jaycen Joshua). This is Jaycen Joshua’s tenth Grammy nomination and Steven Ellison’s third nomination.
