As we look forward to a brighter 2022, we are excited to have all Los Angeles Film School students return to campus in January. We reflect on the past year through the many milestones we’ve met, accomplishments achieved, and relationships strengthened. It is because of the tremendous work and dedication of our wonderful school community that we are a leader in entertainment education. From elite academic rankings to our recording arts alum Phillip Bladh taking home the Oscar for Best Sound, these are the highlights over the past year.
The L.A. Film School in Top School Rankings for 2021
In 2021, our film and graphic design degree programs ranked in Variety Magazine, TheWrap Magazine and Intelligent.com for best higher education programs in the U.S. and abroad.
Considered an academic leader in the entertainment community for over 20 years, Los Angeles Film School has developed a curriculum expressly designed to prepare students for the rigors — and changes — of the entertainment industry. During COVID-19, the program pivoted to remote learning, and more importantly, loaned equipment that allowed students to safely develop their talent without taking unnecessary risks or violating L.A. County’s stay-at-home orders. A robust career development team has also prioritized the Motion Picture Academy’s Gold Internship program to facilitate future learning and work experience for top students in the program.
It doesn’t get much more Hollywood than a film school located on Sunset Boulevard. Opened in 1999 in the historic RCA Building across the street from the Cinerama Dome, LAFS offers degrees in animation, audio, entertainment business, film, graphic design, media communications, music production and writing for film & TV, and includes the L.A. Recording School as a division. The school has updated its main production stage and recording studio. Recent visiting heavy-hitters have included Oscar-nominated screenwriters Rian Johnson, Krysty Wilson-Carins and Taika Waititi and songwriters Cynthia Erivo, Bernie Taupin, Diane Warren, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
The film and graphic design programs at The Los Angeles Film School are ranked among the top degree programs in the U.S. by Intelligent.com, a trusted resource for online/on-campus program rankings and higher education planning. The research identifies programs in the nation based on flexibility, faculty, course strength, cost, and reputation.
