Promoting Disability Equality in Film
As a film school, we encourage film students to write and create stories that galvanize their audiences and create opportunities for greater equality in the film and entertainment industry. Film students and filmmakers today can help change the popular misconceptions of people with disabilities by creating more films about the lives of marginalized people. Harmful stereotypes about the disabled have been perpetuated throughout media for years. In order to start sharing more accurate portrayals of what it’s like to live with a disability, equal representation in film is vital.

We are proud to announce that 14 students and graduates have been selected to participate in the 2021 Academy Gold Rising program. This is the largest class yet from The L.A. Film School, and the fifth year in a row LAFS has participated in the Academy Gold program. Recording Alum Phillip Bladh Wins an Oscar for Sound of Metal
Oscar-winning production mixer Phillip Bladh went to The Los Angeles Recording School, a division of The L.A. Film School in 2008. Now, in 2021 Phillip has won his first Oscar for his production mixing work on Sound of Metal starring Riz Ahmed.
Flying Lotus is Everywhere Right Now
The pandemic hasn’t seemed to slow LAFS alumnus Flying Lotus down. Not only will his music be featured on the soundtrack of Netflix’s new anime series Yasuke out Thursday, April 29, but he’s also collaborating with Pitchfork on a new Sunday event series. Flying Lotus will DJ Lord Jones Sunday Bath Sessions, which takes place Sunday, May 2, at 8 p.m. EST.
